Most artists specialize in a few media of materials to work with in their creations. Many actually only create in one media and then transfer the image to several other formats. But  the multi-talented Sherri Baldy brings the definition of versatile to a whole new level.  Besides her colorful fairy paintings, she also creates her enchanting art in several different media, including fantasy crowns and tiaras, beautiful porcelain dolls, and imaginative 3-D greeting cards, just to name a few.

Sherri BaldySherri, you sold your first piece of art when you were just in 5th grade. Did you know then that you wanted to be an artist when you grew up?

I was so amazed that I could get money for doing something I loved so much. I was so excited as a little girl that something I created brought joy to others. And that made me feel very good. That's when I knew that I would be doing this for the rest of my life.

Do you come from an artistic family or what led you in the direction of art as a young child?

I do come from a long line of crafter's, alchemists and artists.  I would sit at the feet of my grandmother; she was always making something. I had my own Martha Stewart for a grandmother. She created these whimsical worlds all over the house every holiday. I grew up in Fantasy Land.

Have you always done fantasy art?

I have touched every kind of art it seems in one way or another. I just love the art world. It's food for my soul.

Do you have any formal training?

No I don't I have any formal training, just my grandmother. I have always wanted to go back to school. I may do that some day just for the fun of it. I love to learn new things.

How did you get started professionally and what did you begin with?

I really started full time when I designed a Designer Band-aid. I owned a Spa and saw the need for a Designer Band-aid; it was a huge hit. That took me deep into the rag business & designing clothes for the Country Music awards. That all led me into the doll business and fantasy art that I love.

Please share with us all the different forms of art that you do?

I paint, design cloths, hand bags, shoes, bath products cards and dolls. I do a lot these days it is full in fun and excitement though.

What has been your most rewarding or memorable experience as an artist?

Meeting some of my wonderful fellow artist friends has been so great. They will be my life long friends. I have also loved the awards and design wins that I received from companies I design for.

What are your goals for the future? Where are you headed?

To keep creating Feel Good art and to help inspire other artists to never give up.

What advice do you have for someone desiring to become an artist?

To always keep going, never give in or give up. Keep true to yourself no matter what. Don't lose your JOY in what you do. It can be up hill sometimes but it has a great view at the top. So keep on climbing. Someone a hundred years from now may be inspired by your work.
